The Smudging Screening & Q&A: A Night of Indigenous Horror and Resistance

On October 9, 2025, Crushing Colonialism, an Indigenous-led arts and media organization, will host a special Indigenous People’s Day fundraising event featuring a screening of The Smudging and a live Q&A with its director, Mike J. Marin (Navajo, Laguna Pueblo, Washoe).

This fundraiser directly supports Crushing Colonialism’s mission to uplift Indigenous, 2SLGBTQIA+, Disabled, and multiply-marginalized voices through art, media, and storytelling. By purchasing a $10 ticket, attendees are not only gaining access to the film experience but also helping sustain Indigenous-led creative work and advocacy.

The evening begins at 7:00 PM ET with a private Zoom screening of The Smudging for ticket holders. Following the film, the public can tune in to a livestreamed Q&A with Marin on Crushing Colonialism’s social media platforms. The conversation will also be archived on YouTube.

In addition to the film and discussion, the fundraiser will mark the launch of a new Crushing Colonialism T-shirt designed by Johnnie Jae. Proceeds from ticket sales and merchandise will directly support the organization’s ongoing work to amplify Indigenous voices.
