Board of Directors
Description
The board of directors is the governing body of Crushing Colonialism, a registered 501c3 nonprofit in the so-called “U.S.” We currently have two openings for our board of directors. Please read and apply as instructed if interested.
Individuals who sit on the board are responsible for overseeing the organization’s activities and have a fiduciary and legal responsibility to meet their role on the board.
Board members meet periodically to discuss and vote on the affairs of the organization. We currently hold quarterly virtual board meetings with the fourth as the annual meeting in December. At a minimum, an annual meeting must occur with all board members present. Additional meetings or correspondence may take place throughout the year so board members can discuss and make other necessary decisions. Attendance is required as meetings are legally required and do not count without a quorum. Board terms are two years.

VISION
Crushing Colonialism tells the stories of Indigenous people to create a world that values and honors Indigeneity.
MISSION
Crushing Colonialism’s mission is to uplift and tell the stories of Indigenous people through multi-media work while supporting those doing the work. Our collective is founded and operated by Indigenous people working in a variety of media fields across the world. We work to increase the pay and employment of Indigenous media makers while also promoting their work, providing funding for media projects, and increasing access to professional representation. In doing this we control our narratives in order to crush colonialism.
PRESIDENT
The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation. The President shall from time to time make such reports of the affairs and operations of the Corporation as the Board may direct and shall preside at all meetings of the Board. The President shall approve all external communications and be responsible to represent the Corporation with all external partners. The President shall recruit additional future Board members and nominate them for Board approval. The President shall have such other powers and shall perform such other duties as may from time to time be assigned to the President by the Board.
The President leads and oversees the business and affairs of the board and supervises all of the business. This position includes overseeing and managing the work of all the board of directors members and reports to staff, in particular the Executive Director. The person in this position should be knowledgeable and comfortable with fundraising, communications, conflict resolution, negotiations, event programming, and grassroots community outreach.
TREASURER
The Treasurer shall be the custodian of all funds and securities of the Corporation. Whenever so directed by the board, the Treasurer shall render a statement of the cash and other accounts of the Corporation, and the Treasurer shall cause to be entered regularly in the books and records of the Corporation to be kept for such purpose full and accurate accounts of the Corporation’s
The Treasurer keeps account of the receipts and disbursements in the organization’s books. Additionally the Treasurer is responsible for keeping track of the organization’s financial condition. This is an important role because it keeps the other officers and board members informed about the fiscal health of the organization.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
These are non-paid positions and all board members, including non-officers, will be required to raise a minimum of $3,000 USD every year of their term. All board members must be Indigenous with cultural and community ties to their tribes.
