Internship Summary
Crushing Colonialism is a small, but growing Indigenous founded and operated non-profit organization (501c3) based in the so-called US that uses traditional Indigenous storytelling as a tool to honor and uplift Indigeneity. We work with Indigenous communities across borders, lands, and oceans to increase the pay and employment of Indigenous storytellers (journalists, artists, creatives) while also promoting their work, providing funding for media and arts projects, and increasing access to professional representation.
Crushing Colonialism’s Communications Internship provides a hands-on experience in public relations, digital storytelling, and advocacy while offering a front-seat in how social media and outreach can uplift underrepresented voices and provide broad exposure worldwide. This internship is an opportunity to build practical skills (creating social media content, writing newsletters, and updating organization websites) while learning how to translate complex social issues, human-rights work, or community programs into compelling narratives that drive donor engagement and fundraising campaigns. Since Crushing Colonialism is a small non-profit, the intern will interact with core decision-makers and other departments, allowing for a personal, integrative experience with higher-visibility contributions to strategy and media outreach. This internship is best suited for a student who is looking to build a tangible portfolio (website, newsletter, and social media content, analytics, and reports) while connecting with nonprofit leaders, media contacts, and community stakeholders. Crushing Colonialism is willing to work with your university for university credit.
